Did my first volunteer breeding bird survey with an SCA at Arches NP this
morning. Started just around sunrise and picked up these birds:
2 Say's Phoebe
1 Western Scrub-Jay
3 Common Raven
2 Juniper Titmouse
2 Bushtit
1 Rock Wren
2 Ruby-crowned Kinglet
8 House Finch
I found the Ruby-crowned Kinglets to be a surprise. We were in dry and
sparse Pinyon-Juniper habitat and I've always found these guys within a
stone's throw from water.
On the drive away from the survey area I saw what I thought was a Cooper's
Hawk but it was low and disappeared within a second of me spotting it.
Good birding!
