[Birdtalk] Alpine Loop 10/31/08

I drove around the Alpine Loop this morning, up American Fork Canyon and down Provo Canyon (Utah County).  I'm not sure when they close the gates for the year so I thought I would go up while I still could.  
 
At Timpooneke Campground I found a Ruffed Grouse slinking through the bushes alongside the road. There was a female Red Crossbill sitting at the top of a Douglas Fir tree near the trailhead parking.  I was sure there had to be more crossbills in the trees so I sat and waited 15 minutes for her to fly hoping I would see the size of the flock.  Of course as soon as I turned my head she disappeared. I only saw the one.  Along the trail at Timpooneke there were a couple Golden-crowned Kinglets.
