A pair of HOODED MERGANSERS were at Kaysville Ponds, Davis County, today.
The only other migratory waterfowl I saw were a few Ring-billed Ducks. Other
species present included Pied-billed Grebes, American Coots, Mallards, a
Northern Shoveler, Gadwall, American Wigeon and Canada Geese.
This is a good place to study Canada Geese for those of you eagle-eyes who
hope to run across a Cackler someday. I'm remembering Joel and Kathy Beyer's
report of a minima Cackling subspecies here last March. In addition, two of
today's Canadas were wearing yellow neck collars that identify them as birds
from the Farmington Bay population. I'll be reporting them to Rich Hansen,
FBWMA manager.
