Falling victim to my own pet peeve, I managed to not post for more than a
week... oops. In any event here are some random sightings from over the
last 7 days.

prairie MERLIN - near 4500 South and Wasatch Blvd on 10/08

Golden Eagle - 9000 South and 3000 East 10/12, (it looked like it was
hunting over an open lot)

On Saturday (10/11), Jeff Bislky and I birded all over the northern half of
Salt Lake county, from west to east. We started the day off with a brief
stop at the IC, where IT WAS DEAD. I think after 2 or 3 stops I finally
convinced Jeff that we should go.

In the vicinity of Lee's Creek along the frontage road along I-80, we
encountered a few thousand waterfowl (mostly teal and wigeon). Several
shorebirds were present, mostly Killdeer, as well as a few Greater
Yellowlegs and a small flock of Long-billed Dowticher.

We conducted a short lake watch from Saltair at the Great Salt Lake State
Park Marina, the wind was whipping, and lots of California Gulls, as well as
a few small flocks of waterfowl were seen out over the lake. Nothing
unusual.

Heading back east, we drove down 7200 West, where a nice light FERRUGINOUS
HAWK, was perched on a power pole near I-80. At Lee Kay Ponds, there wasn't
a whole lot to mention, mostly the usual suspects...

As it started to snow, we headed up Parley's Canyon to Mountain Dell
Reservoir, where the annual arrival of RING-NECKED DUCKS appeared to have
taken place. I would guess there were around 500 present where the inlet
is at SR-65. We then went up to Little Dell where there water was fairly
empty of birds. Along the norht shore by the dam and at the inlet as well
were numerous Canada Geese, Mallard, American Coot and a hanfful of
Ring-necked Duck.

Good Birding

Tim
