 Dan-

Apologies for the confusion. I should have been more specific. Prairie
Merlin is a subspecies of Merlin ("Richardson's" Merlin, *Falco columbarius
richardsonii*) that nests on the Great Plains from southern Canada through
eastern half of Montana, ne Wyoming, and North Dakota. Slightly different
coloration than the Boreal or Taiga Merlin, which is the most commonly
encountered Merlin throughout most of North America. Richardson's Merlin
has paler upperparts (i.e., back is blue-gray), pale cheek.

Hope this helps, Craig.
