I've recently been toying with the idea of starting a new birding group that
birds frequently & is very educational for all those involved. While in
Albuquerque, NM I ran into a group of birders that called themselves the
"Thursday Birders." They went out every Thursday morning. They had no
leader other than the group itself. They made a group decision on where
they wanted to go. They ID'd everything they came across. They had no
membership dues. They took donations and donated them to various bird
related organizations that desperately needed money. It was a wonderful
group. Around 30 people showed up to bird the Rio Grande Nature Center and
everyone had a great time. Since visiting Albuquerque in April, I have
wanted to start the "Thursday Birders," in SLC. Well, now I have Thursdays
free, and I've started a Yahoo Group. I'm not planning on getting trips
going until next year, but the group is ready for everyone. I was thinking
we could celebrate the end of Duck season at Farmington Bay. I'd love for
everyone to join me.

PS: For some reason I started the group under "pets." Sorry about the
mistake. It's still a functional group. Maybe one day I'll figure out how
to change that.
