[Birdtalk] Jordan River Parkway and River Lane 11/1/08

Yesterday morning I ran out to the Model Airplane Airfield to see if I could relocate Kay's White-throated Sparrow.  I didn't have any luck but I was only there for 40 minutes and wasn't certain where to look.  There were lots of White-crowned Sparrows, Spotted Towhees and a Bewick's Wren in an open area on the right side of the path as you walk up to the airfield.  I think this is where the Sparrow was seen.  I also had 5 Barn Swallows flying over the river.  I looked in my personal records to see how late Barn Swallows stick around. My only other November sighting is of 4 at Farmington Bay Nov 21, 2000. 
 
By the way the street # I gave in the directions to the area the other day was way off. 
 
Directions to the Jordan River Airfield -  Take I-15 exit 279.  Take Lehi Main Street west 2.7 miles to 2300 W.  Take 2300 West South 2.3 miles.  The Parking area is on the right side of the road.
 
 
Matt Mills, Ned Bixler and I spent a couple hours at River Lane yesterday.  There wasn't a whole lot of birds but there were a few sparrows around.  Matt keep bushwhacking through the brush in the River Lane backcountry so he saw more than Me and Ned.   Best bird was a beautiful Lincoln's Sparrow on the fence line right before the end of the pavement.
