I went down to the Peregrine box this afternoon shortly after the last egg
was removed and after speaking to Bob Walters at the DWR who oversees the
program and was heading down to look for the carcass of the recently
discarded hatchling to try to determine a cause of death. I thought he could
use another set of eyes - and I has witnessed the general direction the
Peregrine flew in when removing the chick and final egg. Unfortunately after
a couple hours of searching neither of us nor another volunteer were able to
locate anything. Bob doesn't believe these chicks were killed by the parents
nor consumed by them. The belief is there was something else in the nest the
birds were consuming secondary to any chicks. The belief is the birds and
the egg were discarded by the Falcon somewhere to the South East of the nest
box - which is where we focused our search - to little luck. I believe Bob
will be heading back tomorrow morning for anyone who wants to assist with
the search, I'm certain it would be appreciated even if it is beyond a
needle in a haystack potentially. Please contact him if you find anything at
(801) 538-4771, BobWalters at utah.gov, or look for him down there.
Unfortunately this video of the box isn't archived - just streaming - but
there was one gentleman who stopped by and said he had been recording some
of it - so there may be some answers yet.

Very unfortunate turn of events.
