Hi all,
Tim Avery and I did some birding in northern Salt Lake County today. Here
are some highlights...
*Sugarhouse Park *
Common Goldeneye - 1 male continuing
*Decker Lake*
Canvasback - 3 males
Franklin's Gull - 1 adult
Tree Swallow - 1 foraging over water
Savannah Sparrow - 1 along south shore
*Lake Park*
Common Merganser - 7
RED-BREASTED MERGANSER - 4 including 3 males
A few other diving ducks as well as decent shorebird habitat that had a few
avocets and killdeer
*Lee Kay Ponds*
American White Pelican - 1
Double-crested Cormorant - 1
Franklin's Gull - 1
Bonaparte's Gull - 3
Tree Swallow - 25
Cliff Swallow - 25
BANK SWALLOW - 1
BARN SWALLOW - 2
*7200 W - between landfill and I-80*
SNOWY EGRET - 1 flew in
HERRING GULL - 1 adult basic mixed in with thousands of California Gulls
*Survey on Private Property*
Long-billed Curlew - 25
Willet - 1
Long-billed Dowitcher - 3
Bonaparte's Gull - 2
Rough-legged Hawk - 1
Tree Swallow - 400
Cliff Swallow - 8
Bank Swallow - 2
Barn Swallow - 1
Sage Thrasher - 1 singing in greasewood
Savannah Sparrow - 7 - several singing
Yellow-headed Blackbird - 1003 - massive singing/foraging flock
*Salt Lake International Center*
American Avocets - 2 on puddle on west side
Ruby-crowned Kinglets - 2 in NW corner
