[Birdtalk] Robins eating seeds

Hi,
 
The last few days I have had an American Robin eating sunflower chips at my  
platform feeder. I have seen this a lot at home during the winter and wonder 
if  this is common. I have never seen them eat grit and wonder if they can 
digest  the seeds.
