Hi all,
I was able to obtain an access database, courtesy Jay Banta, of the past 30
years worth of bird survey data for Fish Springs NWR. After some time, I
formatted it properly and loaded it into http://www.ebird.org. The bar
graphs and data for arrivals, departures, abundances, etc. are impressive to
say the least for Fish Springs NWR now. While there are certainly some
suspect parts of the dataset (as is always the case with any dataset), it
should prove useful for anyone interested in knowing what birds are likely
vs. not so likely at any point in the year. To access a bar graph version
of the data, go to http://www.ebird.org and click on 'View and Explore
Data'...then click on 'bar charts'...then select 'Utah' as the region and
highlight the 'hotspots' button...and click 'continue' below...then click
the box for 'Fish Springs NWR' and you should be set...I should note, the
data shown by clicking the above links is not all from the dataset I loaded
as it includes anything submitted by other observers as well.
As more users submit their sightings to Fish Springs, Lytle Ranch, Antelope
Island, Lee Kay Ponds and other locations around the state, similar graphs
and data are definitely attainable for 'hotspots', 'counties', etc. within a
few years of intense use by Utah and out of state visitors.
Wayne - Northern Mockingbirds seem to arrive in late April and early May at
FSNWR and begin to leave in September - as seen by the graph shown above.
