[Birdtalk] RFI - purple martins in Utah

I'm looking for purple martin locations in Utah to assist with an ongoing
research project. A team from Colorado is collecting genetic samples
(non-lethal - the birds are netted and released) from the interior west to
compare to an isolated population on the Pacific Coast. This is in
connection with some work done by Bruce Cousens out of British Columbia.
They got samples from Colorado birds last summer, and would like to locate
one or more colonies in Utah to sample this coming summer. Eastern Utah
would be handiest (less driving time) but I'm sure they'd be interested in
any locations we could provide.

If anyone has info they'd be willing to share, please let me know. Or, if
you get curious and go looking for martins this spring, I'm told stands of
large diameter aspen near meadows with water (like a stock pond) are good
habitat.

thanks!

Kathy
