Message: Thanks for responding, Tim. It's even more complicated than I thought. Now that spring is coming I think I'll go back to keeping records of the hundreds of garden variety snails that live in the vinca outside my front door. I give them names every year and they are slow and very very cooperative. I was also fascinated by the big RSH discussion (haven't been near a computer in a while - just read it today). I was with a group who all looked at the bird on Park Lane (there were two - one an obvious RTH)and also let myself get caught up in the "it's a definite RSH" rush. It WAS an unusual looking bird. I've seen many many, etc., RTH's and I'd never seen a juvenile like this one, if that's what it was. I still think it was a RSH but I'm not really sure why I think so. But I think I have to let it go. I've seen plenty of adults in California but this would have been a state bird. I keep telling myself if birding was too easy it wouldn't be fun, but this is ridiculous.
