Hi all,
I went to Delta to see the Snow Geese this weekend, and found it the
usual inspiring experience. On the way back to SLC, I had a couple of
sightings about which I would love to get general opinions. Between
Delta and Lynndyl, there were several occasions on which small
sparrow-like birds bearing long darkish tails with significant white
borders flew up from near the roadside and into the bush. Spring,
summer, or fall I would have called these Vesper Sparrows without a
second thought. March 2 seems early, however. I suppose they could be
juncos, but.... Any thoughts?
Then, on the small ponds directly east of Lynndyl--where there were lots
of duck and geese and my first Cinnamon Teal of the year--I saw quite
clearly if briefly what appeared to be two Tree Swallows! Their
flight/feeding behavior was distinctly swallowlike, but again, this
seems much too early. I'm just reporting what I think I saw, and again,
asking for opinions. Is it possible?
I look forward to seeing what you think! :)
