[Birdtalk] Red-shouldered Hawk - Success at last

I located the Red-shouldered Hawk today, finally. I wish I could attribute this to my determination and marvelous birding skills (wading through leech infested swamps, enduring sub-zero temperatures, being able to identify a bueto at three miles with my naked eye, etc.). However, I just messed up and Tim Avery came to the rescue. Based on my many failed attempts Tim Avery kindly asked me, "Where have you been looking ... specifically?" After some more information from Tim I realized I have been looking in an area southeast of where the bird actually was. (Unfortunately this sort of faux pas is not uncommon for me.) This morning, Saturday, I followed Tim's directions and found the bird immediately, in the distance. I had to chase it around a bit (Park Lane, the old railroad bed, Burkes Lane, etc.) to get a good, close, and long look. But see it I did and this nemesis is no more. Tim, thanks for taking the time to ask the question. It was a quick trip this morning, but also in the area were several Red-tailed Hawks, Killdeer, Western Meadowlarks, and California Quail.

I also made a short stop at Lee Kay Ponds. Not many birds, but did see Canvasback (24+), Ring-necked Ducks (13), Canada Goose (12+), Common Goldeneye (7), Common Raven (3), Double-crested Cormorant (1), and of course the California and Ring-billed gulls.

Thanks,

Stephen
