To follow Tim's counsel I am trying to post when I bird, even though I usually don't see anything dramatic. After not doing much birding during June I took an hour this afternoon and went to Lee Kay Ponds, in Western Salt lake County. Not the best time of year nor the best time of day (12 noon and 90 degrees), but I did see some fun stuff and two birds I had not seen at Lee Kay Ponds before. There is plenty of water and the ponds look in good shape. The unusual thing I did see, at least for this time of year, were two male Common Mergansers in the far east pond. Also, there were two Common Yellowthroat in the "vegetation" 75 feet north of the viewing platform. A total 28 of species. Here is the list.

Western Grebe - 3
American White Pelican - 4
Double Crested Cormorant 0 7
Great Blue Heron - 3
White-faced Ibis - 7
Canada Goose - 50+ with lots of big goslings
Mallard - 25+ with lots of ducklings in all sizes
Cinnamon Teal - 12, 4 adults and 8 ducklings that must have hatched just recently
Redhead - 12+
American Wigeon - 2
Common Merganser - 2
Swainson's Hawk - 1
Black-necked Stilt - 6+
American Avocet - 30+, the nesting season must still be going on because two avocets tries to skewer out my eyeballs
Killdeer - 5
Wilson's Phalarope - 3
California Gull - 100+
Forester's Tern - 3
Common Raven- 7, momma, papa, and just fledged kids
Barn Swallow - 12+
Northern-roughed Winged Swallow - 1
Marsh Wren - 1, first time for me at Lee Kay Ponds
European Starling - 12+
Common Yellowthroat - 2, first time for me at Lee Kay Ponds
Song Sparrow - 1
Red-winged Blackbird - 6
Yellow-headed Blackbird - 12+
Brewer's Blackbird - 12+

Thanks,

Stephen
