Hi All -
Ray Grass, who is the outdoor editor for Deseret News, would like to do a
story on the popularity of birds and birding in Utah; particularly along
the Wasatch Front and Great Salt Lake areas. He wants to highlight some of
the unique SPECIES found here (I'll list some suggestions below), and great
PLACES to go birding.
I'd like to ask some of our wonderful Utah wildlife photographers if they
would donate the use of bird images for Ray's article - species birders
would like to see - or species that occur in abundance. The paper doesn't
have a budget to pay photographers, but would, of course, give each
individual image used a by-line/credit.
I also mentioned to him that ABA will be here next week, and he may roll
that convention in to his article. But his primary objective is to share
information on how special Utah is for birds/birding - focused mainly in
our northern Utah areas.
Species to consider would be: burrowing owl, western tanager, mountain
bluebird, rosy finches, Bullock's oriole, lazuli bunting, black-headed
grosbeak, Wilson's or red-necked phalarope, western sandpiper, avocets,
stilts and ibis, marbled godwit, pelicans, hummingbirds. Things that occur
in large numbers - are specialties of our area - or species folks can see
in their local area - as well as places to go birding locally.
Please let me know if you'd be willing to donate images for this piece, and
if so, which images you could provide. I appreciate it!
