The mountain called me tonight to come look for owls. I headed up to the big
mountain pass and into East Canyon. I had multiple FLAMMULATED OWLS just
East of the Big Mountain pass, calling and with the help of my ipod, I lured
one in right over my head for a great look and a new lifer for me.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to hear or see any Saw-Whets. At a different
area further East into the canyon, I heard many GREAT HORNED OWLS. On the
way back, west of the pass I had a NORTHERN PYGMY OWL calling with my ipod
and just when I was certain he was going to fly in, a couple of cars zipped
past and ruined my plans. However, not a bad result for a spontaneous owling
trip. By the way, anyone looking to freak themselves out, I highly recommend
owling alone in the dark mountains at night.
