Carl Ingwell and I hiked the Silver Lake, Twin Lakes, Lake Solitude loop
this evening. Highlights are a THREE TOED WOODPECKER (we found an active
nest), RED NAPED SAPSUCKERS (found an active nest), a handful of OLIVE SIDED
FLYCATCHERS, a couple of WESTERN WOOD PEEWEES, CLARKS NUTCRACKERS and a
couple of WILLIAMSON'S SAPSUCKERS heard drumming. The big miss was YR
Warbler - I saw like 15 just a few nights ago and we didn't even see one
tonight - very strange. The most impressive sight was a large flock of RED
CROSSBILLS that easily eclipsed 400 birds. They just kept coming and coming.
Looking forward to the bird count on Saturday.
