Hi all,

I met up with an old college friend and did some hiking down in Zion NP this
past weekend.

Bird highlights are as follows...

Chicken Creek Reservoir (Juab County)

Blue-winged Teal - 4 - molting into eclipse plumage
Long-billed Curlew - 17 - mostly young birds
Greater Yellowlegs - 1 - migrant

Pinyon-juniper habitat in Apple Valley (Washington County)

Black-chinned Hummingbird
Ash-throated Flycatcher
Juniper Titmouse

Friends house in Virgin - surprised by the number of birds still singing

Common Black-Hawk (heard only)
Eurasion Collared-Dove (and in Springdale)
Phainopepla
Crissal Thrasher - singing
Yellow-breasted Chat - singing
Blue Grosbeak - singing

Left Fork of North Creek (the 'Subway') - Zion NP - Washington County

Cordilleran Flycatcher - at least 3 singing birds in the cooler shadowy
section
Black Phoebe - at least 2 separate birds along the lower end of the hike
American Dipper - 2 pairs - quite tame
many of the expected pinyon-juniper/ponderosa species singing on the hike
down into the canyon (Juniper Titmouse, Grace's Warbler, Western Bluebird,
etc.)

Keyhole Canyon (along the east road in Zion NP - above the tunnel) - Kane
County (I think)

Black-throated Sparrow - singing - sort of surprising given the elevation
and the presence of ponderosa pines in the area

Chicken Creek Reservoir - Juab County

Long-billed Curlew - at least 26 birds
Peregrine Falcon - taking down a Cinnamon Teal
