I hiked to the top of Gobbler's Knob in Big Cottonwood Canyon yesterday with
Carl Ingwell and some others. Highlight of the day was a GOLDEN EAGLE flying
in from over the mountain and dive bombing a NORTHERN GOSHAWK. Also got
great looks at a HAIRY WOODPECKER, several CLARK'S NUTCRACKERS and a WILLOW
FLYCATCHER on a nest. All in all, it was pretty birdy and a welcome escape
from the grueling heat of the valley. But be warned, this was quite a steep
hike at times and bring lots of water! You will sleep well afterwards
though.
