Did a hike along the ridge around the Brighton Basin today, and saw most
of the usual suspects (of the avian variety, that is). No luck on the
Golden-crowned Kinglets Tim reported, nor could I find any Williamson's
Sapsuckers in the usual spots at Lake Solitude and the pass overlooking
Twin Lakes. Highlights were Western Tanager (Lake Solitude trail), White-
breasted Nuthatch, Cordilleran and Olive-Sided Flycatcher, Cassin's Finch
(above Lake Solitude), Rock Wren (Mount Wolverine), and Pine Grosbeak
(Lake Catherine).
Next Saturday's Brighton Bird Count should be timed just right for having
dry trails. There were still a few scattered snowy spots on both the Lake
Solitude and Twin Lakes trails today, but they're melting fast. And the
hummingbird feeders are finally out at the Brighton ranger station.
