Here's an amazing account (via IBLE) of long-distance duck migration.
We know that Sandhill Cranes disperse as far as Japan during spring
migration, after wintering in the southern U.S. But they have the ability
to climb to high altitudes on thermals and then glide long distances. Ducks
must migrate by constantly beating their wings.
