Yesterday (2 Jan 2008) I birded an hour or so in the morning with Mo
Correll and Craig Fosdick, and an hour in the evening by myself, around
Logan, Cache Co. We first tried for the SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER that had
been reported at the fish hatchery in Logan, but were unable to see much
due to the steam coming off the water. However, we did have two
grackles, we think GREAT-TAILED GRACKLES, fly over just as we were
giving up on the dowitcher. I tried for the white-throated sparrow
reported by Craig a week or so ago, but was unable to relocate it.
In the evening, I did get decent looks at the SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER. A
digiscoped photo of the dowitcher with two WILSON'S SNIPE and a NORTHERN
SHOVELER is here:

I then headed out to the Logan Airport, and on the way I found a
COOPER'S HAWK (where Airport Road dead-ends), among other birds. At the
Airport I was able to find a SHORT-EARED OWL just before dark:
