John,
I went out today and there is more open water now. The ice is breaking up, and there was plenty to see:

Rough-legged Hawks
Ted-tailed Hawks
Bald Eagles
Mallards
Canada Geese
Kestrels
Great Blue Herons (9 on the rookery and more out in the bay)
American Pelicans (3)
American Widgeon
Northern Shoveler
Cinnamon Teal
Bufflehead
Common Goldeneye
Coots
Lessor Scaup
Northern Harriers
Red-winged BB
Tundra Swans
Short eared Owls
Glaucous Gull juv. (I'm grateful for whoever reported this one, it was there today as well)

Good Birding,
MarJean M.

Can anyone tell me if there is open water at Farmington Bay?

My ornithology class is heading out Tues and wondered if a stop at FBWMA would be worthwhile.

  Thanks
  JFC
