This morning (Su 2/24/2008. 10:30 am, UT Co.) I saw a dozen or so
AMERICAN AVOCETS, most in breeding plumage, in a group of gulls on the
edge of ice by the only open water on Utah Lake. I scoped them from the
northeast corner of the Airport Dike road looking nothwest to the mouth
of Provo River coming to the lake. (No use going to the State Park. The
south jetty by the river is closed and fenced off completely for
construction.) Is this a bit early for avocets in UT county? I have seen
a couple in Delta at the snow goose festival in early March in years
past.
Happy birding ~ Tuula
