Well, folks, I saw it!! He wasn't as easy to find as some have reported, but
after a bit of driving around, using precious gas (oil at $100/barrell!!), I
found him. He was on a pole in the field on Clark Lane, not too far from
the light at Park and Clark (poetry, anyone?). I saw him after I had driven
around the area looking through the smog for him, and had given up. I was
on my way back to I-15 when he caught my eye perched on an old, unused
telephone pole about 100 feet from the road. How I saw him I"ll never
know. I was able to see the white crescent patterns on the upper side of
his wings and the barred patter of his belly and lower breast. Then he flew
down, killed a small animal of some kind - looked like it could have been a
rabbit or someone's pet cat -- and ate it,then flew back to his perch. It
was well worth the effort to see him. I hope he sticks around for some
better weather -- I'd like to see him when the sun is shining.
Happy bird-day!l
