With one day left in the 2008 Great Backyard Bird Count, Utah birders have put Utah on top of the Mountain West states at 139 species already besting our 2007 effort, and every other year since 1998. Colorado surprisingly is one short of Utah, with Idaho 4 back, and Nevada and Wyoming quite a ways behind.
Utah - 139 species totalling 89,351 individuals
Colorado - 138 species totalling 51,019 individuals
Idaho - 135 species totalling 45,552 individuals
Nevada - 103 species totalling 14,358 individuals
Wyoming - 65 species totalling 5,840 individuals
With Monday being a holiday (for many) I think 150 is completely doable and here in Utah we have some major misses that could help pull that number up:
Ross's Goose - There have been reports of over 1,000 Snow's in Delta, there are probably a number of Ross's mixed in
Trumpeter Swan - if someone gets out to Sand Hollow this could be a huge addition
Wood Duck - Beus Pond
Western Grebe - there have to be a few hanging out down south
Great Egret
Lesser Yellowlegs
Least Sandpiper - perhaps still around Farmington Bay?
Western Gull - Farmington Bay
Inca Dove
Northern Saw-whet Owl
Red-naped Sapsucker
Eastern Phoebe - I think Larry got this but it hasn't been entered ;) hint hint
Northern Shrike
Bushtit
Canyon Wren - this would make for a sweep of the Utah Wrens
Phainopepla - anyone been to Lytle over the weekend?
White-throated or Harris's Sparrow - there should be a couple around the state right now
There area also a number of other birds that I haven't heard reports of in recent days but that have been seen recently:
Any Scoter's
Long-tailed Duck
Anna's or Costa's Hummingbird (there have apparently been reports of Costa's already from Washington County)
Red-breasted Sapsucker
Vermilion Flycatcher
Golden-crowned Sparrow
Lapland Longpsur
Snow Bunting
In any event you get the picture, lets have a strong finish to what has been a beautiful weekend great for birding. I know that there are a lot of people who have gotten out that haven't input data. It's really easy and only takes a few minutes:

You don't have to give your name and no one will contact you (unless you report a Cerulean Warbler or something else crazy).
Good Birding
