Below is a post (via Harry Krueger) from IBLE concerning Red Knots.
For those who may have missed the PBS broadcast

Folks,
Just got off the phone with my Dad who lives in New Jersey. As many
know, there was a PBS special about Red Knots on Sunday night. This
was likely timed to coincide with the Board vote on Monday that would
determine whether the Horseshoe Crab moratorium would continue or not.
Well, the vote came in 5-4, lifting the moratorium. That's right, you
read that correctly, Red Knots be damned. Incredibly sad and flat out
stupid. What a poor reflection on us humans. Apparently one of the
ways to correct this mess is for the NJ legistature and governor to pass
a law to fix the issue. However, the politcians are already having a
hard time standing up to the fishermen, and it remains to be seen if
they have the guts to do what's right. Otherwise, the courts will
likely be getting involved. And let's remember that USFWS did not list
the species under the ESA, which would have made a huge difference.
Sorry for the bad news.
Cheers
Dave Lauten
