[Birdtalk] Snow

Snowy days are awesome. I can't get enough of them. The day before the
storm, I set up my feeders, hoping for something better than House sparrows
to show up, but no luck. And then came the storm.

I don't know where all the usuals have been all fall, but after the snow
storm, suddenly everybody was back! The house finches, Am goldfinches,
black eyed juncos, 1 Red Winged Black bird, a Downy woodpecker and 1
American Tree Sparrow, American magpies, a Northern Flicker and a couple of
pheasant hens came to the feeders en mass. I also enjoyed a nice fly-by
of what I think is a Red Tailed hawk, a Sharp Shinned Hawk (could be a
Cooper's) and a Northern Harrier.
New to the feeder this year is a Rocky Mt slate colored junco. he's
totaly black (no gray) with a white belly. he's quite lovely.
Last year, after a Peregrin attacked and killed one of the song sparrows in
my yard, one of the Juncos had one of its wing feather dislodged in a wonky
kind of way, so I named him "Wonky". Anyway, Wonky is back. I will try to
get photos of him and the others to share with you all.

Last year, the redwings mobbed the feeders. With one little red wing
sitting in my tree, watching all the others feast, I'm sure the mob will
return by the weekend.

Snowy days are great!
