Technically if you turn left at the canal I believe that is private property.  That gate is often open but the property belongs to ranchers and leads to several duck clubs.  Where the canal splits about a 1/2 mile west of the turnabout on the dirt road at the north end of Wright Brothers Drive is about as far as I would go if you decide to wander down this road.
