This morning my wife and I walked through the Jordanelle Wetlands (which
aren't very wet these days). We stayed on the fishermen's trail that
closely follows the river, not on the regular pathway with the boardwalks.
There weren't too many birds, but we did see a Bald Eagle and Dipper to
start things off on a good note.
We encountered a few mixed flocks of Black-capped Chickadees, Juncos, and
Ruby-crowned Kinglets along the way, but the best sighting of the walk was
a pair of American Tree Sparrows, a year bird and a new Wasatch County
bird for me.
The location of the sparrows is most easily accessed from the north end of
the wetlands, near the dam. Follow the old road next to the river south
for about .3 mile (this is a total guess). They were very near the spot
where the pipeline crosses the river. The walking to this point is very
easy, but the road ends soon after that and turns into a narrow rocky
path.
