To all Utah birders and field ornithologists:

This is the 2nd notice of the upcoming UOS conference to be held September 12 - 14, at Weber State University.

The Utah Ornithological Society (UOS) is an organization that blends the academic aspects of ornithology with the day-to-day birding that so many people are now interested in. The UOS will be holding its annual conference at Weber State University on September 12 - 14, 2008. On Friday, September 12, several field trips to be led by a number of proficient birders from the Wasatch Audubon Society will attempt to see as many birds as possible in several different locations in Weber County, as well as a special "behind-the-gates" tour of the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge west of Brigham City. These field trips will leave from the Best Western High Country Inn on 12th Street, just east of I-15, starting at 8:00 a.m.
On Saturday, Sept. 13, a number of interesting research papers will be presented at Weber State University Shepherd Union Bldg., beginning at 9:15 a.m. One very informative presentation will be about the Mountain Plover, a species that is rare in Utah and only very occasionally observed. The foremost researcher of this elusive bird will present the details.
On Sunday, Sept. 14, several more field trips are planned in Weber County.
All interested persons are invited to attend the conference; it is not necessary to be a member of the UOS or to be affiliated with any bird club or Audubon Society chapter. For further details, check out the Utah Birds website at UtahBirds.org, and click on the conference link. The registration cost is almost neglibile, but registration is encourage by September 1 in order to enjoy the hors d'oeuvres Friday evening and the continental breakfast Saturday morning.
