Sorry for the belated post.  On Saturday 22 people showed up for the first Great Salt Lake Audubon field trip to the Salt Lake International Center.  I had high hopes that there would be lots of birds, but alas, it was not to be. We tallied just 30 species, a remarkably low number compared to some checklists form last fall in the 50's.  Migratory birds were slim to nil, and most were either fly-overs or calling form the tops of trees or in shrubs, which made it difficult for most observers to get to see them.  Migrant highlights included both a male and a female Western Tanager, a Yellow Warbler, 2 Yellow-rumped Warbler, 2 Bullock's Oriole, and 3 Chipping Sparrow.  Shortly after I arrived a Rufouse Hummingbird flew past me.  A short time later what appeared to be a Black-chinned flew over partof the group in another location.  A large flock of around 150 American White Pelican were circling to the north of the center.  For most of those preset 2 Great Horned Owls was a nice treat as well.

And lastly, a very young Great-tailed Grackle was new for the IC on eBird.  The bird had a dark head, which may have been due to being wet, but it still dwarfed the nearby Brewer's Blackbirds nearly 2-1.
