Bryant,

One other thing about the sugar water -- make sure to not add red food coloring, which is injurious to birds' kidneys and livers.  All hummer feeders come with red bases with little yellow or white florets, so that is all the color that is needed.

        Thanks to everyone who responded to my E-mail. The overwhelming consensus is that a mixture of 4 parts water to one part sugar is the best for the Hummers,. Although you can sweeten it up a little bit if you want to attract a few more, like in the spring when they are looking for nest sites. Its nice to have a community of caring fellow bird nerds out there to answer these kind of question. You are appreciated!
