[Birdtalk] Gyrfalcom in the Wind Rivers??

A couple of days ago I was sitting on top of Gannett Peak in the Wind
River Mountains of Wyoming. A large raptor soared over us. It was very
dark on top and very light on the bottom, but didn't hang around long
enough for me to see any real detail. Does anyone know if Gyrfalcons are
seen that far south at this time of year? The terrain certainly meets the
description of the habitat preferred by Gyrfalcoms. It seems quite
unlikely that a Goshawk would be cruising around at 14,000 feet, but it
was moving south, so I suppose it could be migrating up that high.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks much.

PS: For what it's worth, I support Mark's position on the use of this
list for issues that relate to birding other than sightings.
