Hi everyone,
I have a somewhat unusual problem presented to me by a co-worker who knew of my hobby. Her brother in Helena, MO has a neighbor who loves birds and has a lot of feeders etc. in her yard. This good man decided to give a present to his neighbor. He saw a pattern to a Purple Martin nest box "hotel" with 16 compartments in some magazine and commenced to make one. Not being a birder himself he of course did not know that Purple Martins in Montana, or anywhere in the west for that matter, do not nest in Martin boxes. The neighbor politely refused the gift and now he is left with the "hotel". It is quite large, maybe 2.5' x 2.5' with two stories of nest boxes all built in together, and he has no use for it, and wants to get rid of it. Apparently he did a nice job of building it and does not just want to cart it to the dump. I realize that no one else in Montana has any use for it either, but maybe someone has friends or relatives in the east who would love to have it.
If any of you within the reach of this e-mail has any ideas, friends in the east, friends in the Helena area, or know of a list serve similar to ours in Montana where I could post this add, please e-mail me: tuularose at juno.com. My co-worker and especially his brother would be forever grateful to find occupants for his hotel.
Thanks a bunch ~ Tuula
