The south side of BYU campus was hopping this morning with a fair array of new migrants. I walked the brick trail that runs along the south side of campus (parallel to, and just north of 800 North in Provo) for an hour or so this morning. Highlights were several FOS birds for me. Here is the full list:
Mallard
California Quail
Mourning Dove: 5
Downy Woodpecker: 1
Northern Flicker: 1
WARBLING VIREO: 1
Cliff Swallow: 1
Black-capped Chickadee: 3
Ruby-crowned Kinglet: 6-8
American Robin
European Starling
ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER: 2-3
NASVHILLE WARBLER: 1
VIRGINIA'S WARBLER: 3
YELLOW WARBLER: 3
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER: ~10-12
WESTERN TANAGER: 1 male
Spotted Towhee: 2 males
White-crowned Sparrow: 6
LAZULI BUNTING: 8 m, 1-2 f.
BULLOCK'S ORIOLE: 1 m.
Cassin's Finch: 2
House Finch
Lesser Goldfinch: 5-8
I've managed to check the trails every day since Sunday (4/27) and have seen a few other birds.
On Sunday I saw a Cliff Swallow (FOS), although I'm sure they'd been seen elsewhere much earlier, and still some Junco's hanging around.
On Tuesday I had a PLUMBEOUS VIREO, about 15 Cassin's Finches, a Brown-headed Cowbird, and between 15 and 20 Lazuli Buntings.
Cheers,
Matt Mills
