Spent the day doing some much needed unwinding and birded Antelope Island/Causeway/Garr Ranch and Farmington Bay. Met and spent some time with Jack Renall (sorry about the spelling) and Keith Evans from the Ogden area on the Causeway and at Garr Ranch. Also, made a quick stop at Kay Lee Ponds on the way home, though the gates were locked. Highlights:
1. 100+ Black-bellied Plover on the Causeway between mile marker 4 and 5. I have never seen that many before at one time. I tried to turn one of them into an American Golden Plover, but I was not successful.
2. Two Dunlin still on the Causeway's rocky "spit", as reported by Merrill Webb. The birds were crowded in with several hundred if not a thousand Western Sandpipers (no Sanderlings though). The Dunlin is a new Utah bird for me!
3. The female Long-tailed Duck is still at the Causeway's "big" bridge. Was very active and seemed healthy.
4. Yellow Warbler (6+), Virginia's Warbler (6+), Yellow-rumped Warbler (12+), and Orange-crowned Warbler (6+), Hermit Thrush (3), Ruby-crowned Kinglets (6+), and Lazuli Bunting (2) at Garr Ranch.
4. One Solitary Sandpiper at Farmington Bay, as reported earlier on the ponds as you enter.
5. Two Blue-winged Teal at Farmington Bay, one on the ponds as you enter and the other viewed from Egg Island, to the northeast.
6. Marbled Godwits (12+) at the far west end of Lee Kay Ponds.
