[Birdtalk] Dry Lake Birds

On my daily migration between work and home (live in Cache Valley, work at
the UofU in SLC), I stop at Dry Lake (between Logan, Cache Co and Mantua,
Box Elder Co on US 89) and check out which birds are swimming around in the
ice water.

Last week, there were only between 10 & 15 Mallard pairs and no other birds
except the meadowlarks. Each day more Mallards appeared, then one day,
there were about 25 mallard pairs, 60 white-faced ibis and 15 gulls (4 had
black heads, but I don't know what spp they were, they flew off just as I
got out of my car). The numbers have steadily increased each day and
yesterday, there were American coots and what I think (keyword) were
cinnamon teals, ... they were too far away and I don't have a scope :-(
but they had red heads and bodies, they seemed like Cinnamons anyway.

Yesterday there were
>2000 WHITE-FACED IBIS (I couldn't count them all, there may have been more)

CINNAMON TEAL? (didn't count, but there were about 5 or 6 pairs)
AMERICAN COOT, 4
MALLARD, 30 pairs
KILLDEER, 2
WESTERN MEADOW LARK, 4
VESPER SPARROW, 2
YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS, 43
and gulls, which I am not good at identifying yet.

BTW, most Fridays I go birding. If anyone would like to go along with me,
give me a call. E-mail me for my number.
