Hi Guys,

Well, it is time for the "first" posting of the year from the backyard
birders.

Tonight I was sitting outside and had the pleasure of seeing a MALE CALLIOPE
HUMMINGBIRD. My husband came out with his camera and we were treated to a
serenade and it turns out we had two! It's only been a year but I always
forget how stinkin' cute they are. It was so great.

We also got a picture of a cute little WHITE CROWNED SPARROW that has been
present for the last couple of weeks. He showed up about the same time as
our CASSIN'S FINCHES.

In addition we have had for the last couple of weeks:

lots of RED WINGED BLACKBIRDS
BREWERS BLACKBIRDS
BROWN HEADED COWBIRDS
lots of AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES
some LESSER GOLDFINCHES
at least one breeding pair (probably our usual) WESTERN SCRUB JAYS
a lot of BLACK CAPPED CHICKADEES
our EURASIAN DOVES and MOURNING DOVES seem to be learning to be getting
along. The EURASIAN DOVES are prevalent now.
Our "resident" SHARP SHINNED HAWK
a visiting KESTREL
lots of AMERICAN ROBINS
the ubiquitous Starlings and
lots and lots of HOUSE FINCHES AND SPARROWS

Our Bullocks Orioles always show up the end of April and I can hardly wait
to see them, less than 10 days!!! Spring has definitely arrived in Utah!

Here are the pictures of the MALE CALLIOPE:

So, there ya go. I will be back in less than two weeks with Oriole
pictures.

Man, I love spring.

(Ok, I know I have overused my allotment of exclamation points, but I really
don't care. I am chuffed!)

I hope that my achievements in life shall be these -- that I will have
fought for what was right and fair, that I will have risked for that which
mattered, and that I will have given help to those who were in need that I
will have left the earth a better place for what I've done and who I've
been. ~ C. Hoppe
