[Birdtalk] night migrants

I listened from the top of the Suncrest development (Salt Lake - Utah County
divide) tonight from 10pm-12:15am. The neighborhood was quite loud so I
feel about half that time was spent listening to local kids, trucks, etc..
While I didn't hear any songbirds, there were numerous flocks of ducks
moving overhead. Based on calls, I had at least two flocks of CANADA GEESE,
1 flock of AMERICAN WIGEON and at least 2 flocks containing GADWALL.
Several other flocks flew over, but unfortunately I could only hear the wing
beats...I guess I can say that these flocks did not have Ring-necked Ducks
or Common Goldeneye, but those are the only two ducks I could eliminate
based off of wing beat sounds. I also watched the moon through the
binoculars for about 30 minutes and had 6-8 birds fly across it. A couple
were too fast to even determine if they were waterbirds or songbirds. I did
have at least two ducks fly through and I think a heron/egret.

I would imagine tomorrow night will be better (admittedly still early for
most songbirds) and should be great for listening as well. Let me know if
you would like to come along sometime.
