hanging around the rest pond to the east of West Dike near the 2nd bridge at
the airboat launch. There has been some debate online as to the ID of the
bird. However, based off in field observations, the bird appeared to be a
Pomarine.

Sept 27th (Thu): Great Salt Lake Audubon 6th Annual Gala - Our theme for this
year’s event is “Our Birds: Linking Communities across the Americas” and
emphasizes the connectedness between far away places. For instance, many of the
birds we see at the Great Salt Lake also travel to Canada and then to Mexico or
Central and South America. The birds remind us that what happens here can
influence others half a globe away and that the reverse is also true. Don Paul,
Great Basin Bird Conservation Region Coordinator for the Intermountain West
Joint Venture, will be our honored guest speaker for the evening. Don will
showcase the birds that annually travel to and from the Great Salt Lake and
will describe the “linking partners” program that is being developed. If you
cannot make the gala, please consider donating an item or service that could be
included in our silent auction. By doing so you'll help Audubon and receive a
tax-deduction (you will receive a receipt for tax purposes). Reservation Form -

RESEARCH SITE - Leaders: Allene and Charles Keller - This trip is scheduled to

from Salt Lake City. Once at the trailhead, the hike is 3.5 miles with an 1800
foot elevation gain. The hike may take 2 to 3 hours, depending on your physical
condition and any birding you do along the way. There is no water source so
bring your own. This will be an all day trip. Weather conditions can be
variable, so please plan accordingly. Suggested items: hat, sunscreen,
sunglasses, windshell, warm clothes, gloves, binoculars, camera, food, & plenty
of water. We will meet early Saturday morning in Wendover weather permitting.
