A very windy day along the lakefront, but I had hopes the strong south winds
would hole some migrants up at several locations. Just as with last Friday the
wind had pushed 100's of gulls up to the south side of the causeway, and in
almost the same locale as Friday a 1st winter SABINE'S GULL was hanging out.

At Garr Ranch migration had slowed from previous trips, but a LEAST FLYCATCHER
made up for the lack of birds. A quick stop in Farmington revealed many ducks
at the WMA and a number of terns and gulls as well.

I finished the night off at the International Center, seeing my first PINE
SISKIN for this location, and seeing multiple LINCOLN'S SPARROWS.

Here are the HIGHLIGHTS from the afternoon.

Location: Antelope Island Causeway (1:00-2:00pm partly w/ Glenn Barlow)
Number of species: 25

A 1st winter SABINE'S GULL was seen on the southside of the causeway between MM3
and 4. The bird was not nearly as "tame" as the one on Friday, but was feeding
with its wings raised along the beach, much like the last one. It was first
seen today, about 200 yards off shore, shearwatering in the wind. Over the 40
minutes I watched the bird, it moved about .8 miles to the west of where I
first saw it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Location: Antelope Island - Garr Ranch (2:20-3:20pm w/Glenn Barlow)
Number of species: 33

With the strong south winds the ranch was fairly dead. Migration is probably
slowed a bit right now due to the ongoing southerly winds we have seen.
However, the big surprise was a LEAST FLYCATCHER along the spring. The bird
was first seen foraging out over the observation area between the 2 springs,
and later seen about 90 feet to the south in the trees. Glenn and I had
trouble relocating it after that so he could ge ta good look at it. Another
surprise and new county/ranch bird for me was a BEWICK'S WREN along the fallen
tree on the north fence along the spring.
