After chasing the golden-crowned sparrow yesterday near Croydon, I decided to visit Antelope Island and renew my annual state parks pass ($$$ - uff-da!). There was a very white eared grebe on the south side of the concrete bridge just east of the marina. It's body was mostly white with just a bit of gray mottling. The head had some gray and black on it, but most of the neck was quite white as well. A very interesting-looking bird. It stuck out like a sore thumb. I did a quick search of the gull flocks for the Sabine's without luck.
Willard Bay State Park yielded my first fall flock of juncos, many yellow-rumped warblers and quite a few white-crowned sparrows as well. I didn't spend lots of time there, but there sure was a lot of bird chipping going on! Certainly worth frequent return trips to see what else might pop up.
