Several Black-capped Chickadees mobbed a NORTHERN SHRIKE in Jefferson Hunt
Campground in Ogden Valley, Weber County, this morning. The shrike appeared
to be a first-year bird due to the buffy-tinged, scaly breast. Other
highlights around the valley:

Four Wilson's Snipe in the wetland east of SR-162 at the Middle Inlet Swim
Area.

A Great Horned Owl roosting in a tall willow on Cemetery Point.

A Hairy Woodpecker in Jefferson Hunt Campground, second in two days. Two
Hairys in mountain valleys in two days is not exactly a trend, but worthy of
interest since this species is not often seen at lower elevations.

A Black-billed Magpie carrying, then dissecting and caching a crawfish in
Huntsville Cemetery. Good place to bury things.

A male Wilson's Warbler in a Russian Olive at the south trailhead for the
Winter's Grove Nature Trail in Jefferson Hunt.

Pineview Reservoir was relatively quiet and the few fishing boats did a good
job of flushing any birds I was watching anyway. I saw scattered small
groups of ducks, coots, grebes and a couple Common Loons.

Jefferson Hunt Campground is located near mm 18 of SR-39. Cemetery Point
(National Forest Service Recreation Area) and Huntsville Cemetery are at the
west end of 100S, Huntsville.
