[Birdtalk] Greater Scaup @ Little Dell

I did a quick check of our Salt Lake County reservoirs this afternoon (at least
the two "major" spots). At Mountain Dell, around 70 RING-NECKED DUCK were in
the northeast arm (the last couple years this flock has built up into the
hundreds).

At Little Dell, which is usually dreadfully dead, I was shocked to see little
dots all along the north shore from the overlook just off the road before the
turnoff to Emigration Canyon. However, 95% of the dots turned out to be
American Coots, around 100. The were however 8 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 12 MALLARD,
1 EARED GREBE, 10 RING-NECKED DUCK, 4 LESSER SCAUP and the highlight of the
afternoon, 3 GREATER SCAUP.

A bit early but I guess on cue with a number of other early arrivals this fall.
With that said, bring on the Scoters and rare loons!

Below the dam at Little Dell was one more surprise, a flock of 12 SANDHILL CRANE
were in a small field along the creek.

Also, the EARED GREBE continues at Sugarhouse Park in Salt Lake City.

Cheers
