[Birdtalk] Saturday Birding

Hi all,

Tim Avery and I birded Sugarhouse Park, the Salt Lake International Center,
Antelope Island Causeway and Saltair today.
Highlights were 2 different SABINE'S GULLS and 3 AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS...

SUGARHOUSE PARK - SL County

Eared Grebe - continuing

SALT LAKE INTERNATIONAL CENTER

SABINE'S GULL - 1 juvenile  - worked the ditch that is to the southeast of
the intersection of Wright Brothers and Harold Getty Drives...the bird
eventually flew off to the southwest and we could not refind the bird
Forster's Tern - 6 - working the same ditch as the gull
Brown Creeper - 1 - FOS
Red-breasted Nuthatch - 1 - FOS
Mountain Chickadee - 2 - Pines N of Compaq Building
Warblers: Yellow-rumped (15+), Orange-crowned (8), Wilson's (1 male),
MacGillivray's (1 male)
Chipping Sparrow - 12 - numbers have dropped dramatically
Spotted Towhee - 1 - FOS

CAUSEWAY

AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER - 3 juveniles - both sides of causeway
Black-bellied Plover - 91
Marbled Godwit - 7
Willet - 6
Baird's Sandpiper - 2
Long-billed Dowitcher - 2000+
Red-necked Phalarope ~1000 - south side - just to east of second bridge
Black-necked Stilt - 73!
American Avocet - 10000+
SABINE'S GULL - 1 juvenile on north side of causeway between MM 2-3
SWAINSON'S THRUSH - 1 - about MM3-4...foraging along vegetation/sand line

SALTAIR & MARINA - Lakewatch ~ 4:30-6pm

1 possible jaeger - distant (500+ yards) and landed in water and could not
be relocated so we were not 100% positive it wasn't a first winter
California...the whitish rump and gray could be seen on all other distant
first winter California Gulls
California & Ring-billed Gulls - 500+ flew by mostly heading west
American Avocet - 3 flybys
Northern Shoveler - 14
Barn Swallow - 5
