While working in the yard, I heard Waxwings in my Hew and Juniper's. Without binoculars, I was not able to see them clearly but thought I could see a dark rather than light under tail covert. A quick trip inside for my binos and I was able to confirm 26 Bohemian Waxwings foraging for berries in the trees.
They were in and around the yard Sunday and Monday. Checking my yard list, they were the 100th bird species since beginning my list in 1986. Suburban sprawl has dramatically altered the surrounding natural habitat, so adding a new species is extremely difficult. However, they were extremely welcome.
Like many others, we have had the Mountain Chickadee, Steller's Jay, and Red-breasted Nuthatch this fall. Hoping the irruption continues, now perhaps a Common Redpoll . . .
Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.
