My Brother in Law Frank Clawson called me yesterday to report Bohemian Waxwings in his neighborhood in Fruit Heights. I ran up there yesterday morning and found at least 75 birds a mix of Cedar and Bohemian Waxwings the majority are Bohemian. They were flying between a big tree void of leaves in one yard and an ash tree full of berries in the yard next door at 966 Country Ln. I spent a half hour standing under the tree and they came in within 15 feet of me feasting on berries and passing berries to one another. There was also a beautiful male Downey Woodpecker working the tree where they were resting, and lots of Robins sharing the feast. This was only my second sighting of Bohemian Waxwings and it was spectacular.
Thanks to Frank for his report.
The area around the Learning Center at Farmington Bay continues to be a great place to view birds of Prey. The Rough-legged hawks put on a great show hovering over the fields then slowly floating down on their prey. There are two Bald Eagles staying around, one adult and one juvenile, and lots of Red-tails, Northern Harriers and Kestrels.
Happy Birding
Steve
